Many Sci Fi writers have discussed Earthquake predictions
Cal Tech along with the Universities in Japan are on the leading edge of this new technology and it is quickly becoming a reality. Soon we will know months in advance of an expected quake and the precise time maybe known hours or minutes before it actually comes. Arthur C. Clarke discussed early Earthquake warnings in CA, in a couple of short essays and stories and then again in a two of his most famous novels. If you will recall the book, "Richter 10;" in this book they could predict the Earthquakes months in advance. Well it looks as if we maybe on our way to pin pointing the quakes. Here is technology, which lets you know almost 30 seconds, enough to get away from things which may fall on your head. What people may not realize is that the technology is nearly hear and will be nearly as good a tornado predictions http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/research/parkfield/ http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/research/parkfield/sciadv.html A lot of work goes into this stuff and it should be noted that we are approaching a new level of science in these fields. Every year we get better at it. The folks in the research lab at CalTech are using state of the art science and bleeding edge technologies and one has no option but to be thoroughly impressed, http://www.wsspc.org/home.html which allows our populations to feel safe as well. There is a lot being done to prevent these things and this will improve in the future. We are just now being able to cause Earthquakes through the use of harmonic resonance. It appears to be possible to use certain frequencies to mitigate the excessive damage of Earthquakes while still allowing for the natural flow of plate tectonics. With proper sensors we will be able to know when and where and which active faults are ready to slip or give. Those at Cal tech are certain it will not be long now. http://www.gps.caltech.edu/users/jkirschvink/pdfs/earthquakeprediction.pdf . I hope everyone appreciates the work being done there at Cal Tech, it will save billions in rebuilding and an potentially human millions of lives. We should continue to invest in research monies to this emerging science, because its future ability to predict with pin-point accuracy is right around the corner. Think about it. A Case for Human Machine Visual Interface Animation of personified reality is intriguing, memorable and interesting as well. Perhaps we ought to remember this when letting kids watch cartoons of attacking counter parts? Or maybe this is a good way to help them better understand the Machiavellian characteristics of the species before they enter the real world, where everything is not so warm and fuzzy. Energy Aware and Waste Wise Constantly bombarded with negative information about the environment, finances and natural resources? Feeling overwhelmed? Each and every one of us can do something to help our world - starting right where we are, right now. Though not everyone can afford to donate cash or time to a cause, there are endless tactics that will decrease an individual's contribution to the landfill and their resource consumption. Dream Therapy and Learning thru Human Hibernation Want to learn a new language? Would you like to earn a PhD in Physics; perfect your backstroke tennis swing, golf finesse or fly-fishing techniques, while you sleep? While, your immune system catches your body back up on your lack of exercise, fitness and proper diet? How about if I told you, that you most likely will shed about 20-25 lbs of extra weight while all this is going on? Well, if we further develop our sleep research, human hibernation studies and mind or brain advances we will be able to do all this and more in the near future, perhaps less than 5-years.Let me tell you about a few of the latest new rapidly approaching and potentially converging technologies, which will make all this possible. Three Types of Telescopes - What are the Advantages Refractors, Newtonian reflectors and Catadioptrics are the three main types of telescopes. All these different types have the same purpose, but each telescope design does it differently. Preventing Flooding on Individual Farmers Fields to Save Crops I propose permits be given to farmers to they can set up along the edge of their fields a microwave array to burn a hole in the clouds when severe weather threatens their crops. I would propose that this concept be completely privately funded and be done in conjunction with the FAA. Re-Designing the ICBM With The Latest and Greatest Technology We propose a Stealth Aircraft or non-stealth composite aircraft to have a honey comb structure with an external shell or skin for the diffraction of incoming laser weaponry, which we believe based on the results of the THEL Anti-Missile Defense System success, will be what future enemies will use to attempt to down our US Aircraft. We Have Come Along Way in Our Exploitation of Transportation We sure have come along way since the horse and buggy or the first Model T that left the assembly line. We have attempted to build unbelievable transportation items and prototypes for instance; the Spouse Goose, jet powered bullet trains, under water autonomous vehicles and those X-Planes. Secrets of The Mathematical Symmetry of Nature and Patterns of Erosion As scientists and theorists study patterns, design, chaos, complexity they often turn to nature for examples and there is plenty of examples in nature too. UAV - Terrain Following Technologies There are many technologies being used today such as ultrasonic sensors, which provide non-contact for solution levels in liquid storage tanks. Using this technology the tanks can use non-corrosive methods to prevent failure of parts. X-37 UAV Has Potential X-37 Moves Forward, Now What? Well, here are a few ideas of taking this craft to a whole new level and plateau in American Ingenuity and Innovation. NASA has learned a lot from the X-37 tests and will now turn it over to DARPA, which makes a lot of sense indeed. Super Volcano: Can The Disaster Be Prevented? It maybe possible to apply a rogue wave theory and some mathematical formulas of fluid dynamics to the problem of superplumes (theory) of volcanic activity to get them to erupt outside areas of high populations. This would be done by triggering events into the liquid magma underneath the surface. Composite Materials in Ships, Pipelines, Liners and Aircraft One future problem, which has not sufficiently been addressed, is that of the fumes and smoke created when composite material burns. Composite material is a truly great human achievement in material science, however as we use this material in more and more places we need to be acutely aware of the risks and potential consequences of their use. Hyper Sound Wave Emissions to Quiet Helicopters It is possible to disrupt the sound waves coming from a flying helicopter and re-direct those sound waves up. This would mean on a day with no clouds you would not be able to hear the helicopter from the ground. |
